First Week Done! How Did You Survive?
There are some of us that look forward to the first day of school. Counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the kids went back to school – whether it was primary school or university! It starts with the cooler weather – you start rummaging in drawers, cupboards and closets to dig out all the “school gear”. During this rummaging it is discovered that backpacks are needed due to zippers no longer working, dogs have chewed up lunch bags, miraculously every last sheet of paper and every pen has been eaten by the troll living in the basement, and every pair of pants have holes in the knees and shoes no longer fit period! First it is back to school shopping and trying to make sure everyone is happy and nothing is missed. Then it is getting your house back, cleaning and organizing and enjoying the quietude of silence! Glorious Silence!!!
But there are others that absolutely dread the first day of school. It is the end of summer – a summer of relaxing, cottages, boating, fishing, relaxing, running free, no alarm clocks, gardening, relaxing, no schedules, camp, visiting, eating, relaxing, barbecued everything, traveling, vacations, beaches, camping, relaxing. It is so hard to get back into the routine. That first day wanting to kill the alarm clock when it went off at an ungodly hour that was still somewhat dark outside. Young kids screaming with excitement, barely able to gather them to eat something, get out of their pajamas, and brush their teeth. The older kids trying their absolute hardest to just hide under the covers and sink into the mattress and pray that you completely forgot that today was the first day of school!
No matter whether you were excited about the first day of school or were dreading its arrival – we are one week past and I like to think we all survived and the chaos is getting a little easier, routines are falling into place, and the snooze button on your alarm clock is not being smashed quite so violently to silence the angry BEEP BEEP BEEP. I hope you all had a great first week of school and even took advantage of the back to school sales to get some new office supplies or equipment. I hope your kids were lucky enough not to get hit with homework the first week. And I hope that you are still enjoying some summer relaxation – even if autumn is in the air!
